Maison Mer

Maison Mer is the intersection of old world craftsmanship and new world convenience. The property was originally a horse farm on the coast of Maine, but my clients decided to construct a new house on site. The clients wanted all of the amenities that a modern build had to offer without sacrificing character. Charmed by the French countryside on a prior family vacation, they requested a design that brought the “feeling” of Southern France into their own home.

Serendipitously, I previously studied painting in the hills of a quaint 10th century village in Provence, France. The memories of my time spent here amongst its architecture and rich organic colors served as a great source of inspiration for many of the design features in this home–for example, we chose verdigris, shades of greige, and dijon to be the overarching color pallet. The interplay of verdigris and greige provided a serene backdrop to highlight the beautiful warm tones of the architectural details while the dijon added a whimsical joie de vivre. From reclaimed French oak doors to custom made balusters, this home transports you to France, airfare not required.
